Material Care
Wood
At Josmo, we take pride in using premium kiln-dried solid wood and veneer for our furniture. These materials ensure exceptional durability and longevity. Keep in mind that wood is a natural material, so variations in grain and colour are part of its charm. Over time, exposure to light will enhance its character, developing a rich patina that tells the story of your Josmo piece.
General Upkeep
- Protect from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent fading and warping.
- Use sheer curtains to filter harsh light.Use coasters or placemats to shield surfaces from water rings, heat marks, and scratches.
- Avoid using magazines or newspapers as barriers; their ink can stain or stick to the surface.
Regular Cleaning
- Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap, following the wood grain.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the wood's finish.
Spills
- Quickly blot spills with a soft, absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing, which can spread the liquid.
- Gently clean any residue with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
Fabrics
Our fabric selection includes a variety of natural and synthetic materials. While we ensure high quality, slight variations between production runs are normal and not considered defects. These subtle differences add character to your Josmo piece, making it uniquely yours.

Product Care
Cushions
Allow time for new cushions to adjust and soften:
When you first receive your Josmo piece, the cushions may feel firmer than expected. This is normal! With regular use, the cushions will gradually soften and conform to your body, providing optimal comfort. This process typically takes a few weeks, depending on how frequently you use the piece.
Rotate, flip, and fluff regularly for even wear:
To ensure your cushions maintain their shape and comfort over time, make a habit of rotating and flipping them regularly. This distributes wear evenly across the cushion. Fluffing helps restore the cushion's loft, keeping it plump and inviting. For most Josmo pieces, we recommend this maintenance weekly or bi-weekly, depending on use.
Table Tops
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth:
Regular dusting prevents the buildup of tiny particles that can scratch your table's surface over time. Use a soft, lint-free cloth and wipe in the direction of the wood grain for best results.Use protective pads for hot dishes and coasters for drinks: Even heat-resistant finishes can be damaged by very hot items. Always use trivets or hot pads under heated dishes. Similarly, coasters protect against water rings and potential staining from beverages.
Check and tighten hardware periodically:
Over time, the natural expansion and contraction of wood can cause screws and bolts to loosen slightly. Every few months, gently test the tightness of visible hardware. If you find any loose connections, tighten them carefully with the appropriate tool. This simple maintenance keeps your Josmo table sturdy and prevents potential wobbling.
Accessories
Dust lightly for regular maintenance.
Your Josmo accessories, from decorative objects to smaller furniture pieces, benefit from regular dusting. Use a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster for delicate items. This simple act prevents dust buildup and keeps your accessories looking their best.
For deeper cleaning, use a soft cloth with mild soap and water.
When a more thorough cleaning is needed, dampen a soft cloth with a mixture of mild soap and water. Wring out the cloth well - it should be damp, not wet. Gently wipe the accessory, then follow up with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue. Finish by drying with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.
Large Items & Storage
Tighten fittings 6-8 weeks after delivery and annually thereafter:
As your new Josmo piece settles into its environment, connections may loosen slightly. After the initial 6-8 week period, and then annually, check and tighten any visible fittings. This maintains the piece's structural integrity and prevents wobbling or creaking.
Avoid placing hot or wet items directly on surfaces:
Always use coasters, trivets, or placemats to protect your Josmo surfaces from heat and moisture. This simple habit goes a long way in preventing marks, stains, or damage to the finish.
Rotate decorative objects during the first 6-8 weeks:
New furniture finishes are particularly susceptible to imprinting. During the first two months, periodically rotate any decorative objects placed on your Josmo piece. This prevents permanent marks or color differences where items rest.
Keep furniture away from air conditioners and heat vents:
Extreme or fluctuating temperatures can cause wood to expand, contract, or even crack. Position your Josmo pieces away from direct sources of heat or cold to maintain their beauty and structural integrity.
Use caution when opening multiple drawers simultaneously:
To prevent tipping, especially with taller pieces, avoid opening all drawers at once. This maintains the piece's center of gravity and ensures safety
When moving furniture, lift from both ends and avoid dragging:
Protect your Josmo piece and your floors by always lifting furniture when moving it. Recruit a friend to help lift larger pieces from both ends, keeping the item level. Never drag furniture, as this can damage both the piece and your flooring.
